Conventions

For the most part, I don't go to a lot of conventions, but I do have some favorites, including OryCon, RadCon, and Norwescon. Generally I'll show up at those, especially if they invite me. If they don't invite me, I may also show up, but like the wicked fairy in Sleeping Beauty, I'll curse everyone to a hundred years of slumber. Probably with a reading.

Of the more far-flung cons I've attended, I have enjoyed two in particular—World Fantasy and WisCon. World Fantasy is a very literary and business-oriented con. That means very few costumes. I have nothing against costumes, but as a writer, one is better able to have respect for the dignity of one's craft when one doesn't have to trip over a sexy Borg every time one goes into the green room to get a Diet Dr. Pepper.

2007 marked my first year attending WisCon, and I will very likely go back as often as I can afford to. WisCon is the world's leading Feminist SF convention, crammed to the rafters with fascinating people and thoughtful programming. And it's held in Madison, Wisconsin, which is a really awesome place.

I may add other cons to to my regular rotation in the fullness of time. And if I do, I'll list them here. So keep your eyes peeled!
