Q: How do you pronounce “Credomancy”?

A: I generally pronounce it “CREE-doh-man-see,” though I’ve heard some people say it “CRAY-doh-man-see” and I don’t find that particularly objectionable. “CRAY-doh-man-see” bugs me only to the extent that the speaker makes it rhyme with “Play-Doh.” Of course, any pronunciation in which any syllable other than the first is stressed will certainly lead the speaker down the royal road to ruin.

Thanks for reading!

What other works do you have? Where can I find them?

You don’t mention “CRED-oh-man-see” with the short “e” as in “credit” (vs. the long “e” in “credence”). I assume this pronunciation is also anathema to you, but both “CREE-doh” and “CRED-oh” seem plausible to me.

No, actually now I think about it I realize I also pronounce it that way sometimes. Such a versatile neologism.

Dreadnought would probably have a single favored pronunciation (probably with the long E) and would despise the other one.
