"Will my concern for this day not seem foolish ten years hence?"

My Authorial Debut

The Thrilling Sequel

Laboring over Labor Day Weekend

Well, we certainly labored this weekend, and my poor aching back is the proof. In the spirit of getting daughter ready for her big entrance into seventh grade, we finally convinced her (note that WE had to convince HER) that a wallpaper pattern of chubby hippos and cartoon birds was simply not appropriate for a lovely young woman entering her teen years. Besides that, the walls were looking grimy and grungy, so it was just time. And since my wonderful sister Rachel is currently in town (before she leaves to go back to St. Petersburg, Russia for a whole year to finish her PhD dissertation) and my mom was able to clear her calendar as well, we figured it was a good time to get all hands on deck.

Behold, the transformation from grungy garret to luxurious loft! The name of the color is “quiet storm” which sounds very romantic. It is a truly blue room. And look at how neatly her bed tucks right into the funky little corner at the back of the room! It’s delicious. Bring on the seventh grade, I say!

She is over the moon. ;-) It is a very grown up room!

Native Star is really good. I’m at the office pining away to read the last 50 pages or so. Also, you owe me like 2 hours of sleep.

omg. What a super cool room. Love the color–my office (my favorite room in my house) is painted something similar. The bed looks awesome. You guys did a great job, and your daughter has a very dramatic, romantic, beautiful room . . . .

I usually go for more muted, “craftsman”-y colors, so I must admit, I was a bit worried. But I love it. It’s rather nautical!
